‘JK on threshold of dev revolution’

Srinagar, July 4: State finance minister today said that J&K was at the threshold of “development revolution” with government endeavoring to provide all the basic facilities to the rural populace especially hitherto neglected areas at par with urban people.
He was addressing a public gathering, after laying foundation stone of Rs 3.13 crore Muqam-Hangoo road in Charar-i-Sharief constituency today.
The 5 km long road scheduled to be completed within 18 months will connect about 10 villages benefiting 40,000 souls. About Rs 4 crore would be expended on macadamization of the road in phase-II.
He said building a vast network of roads in inaccessible areas under PMGSY has revolutionized the communication system especially in rural areas, which is bound to transform the socio economic profile there.
“With a view to give fillip to trade and commerce in the State in a big way, all the unconnected villages and hamlets are being linked with main trunk roads”, he said adding that the State is on the threshold of the massive development revolution.
Responding to the demands of the people, he said a comprehensive road project costing Rs 5 crore has been prepared to upgrade and macadamize roads in Branwar, Neego, Jabbar, Zilchidari, adding that a modern bridge at a cost of Rs 2 crore would be constructed in Qanoon Gopora for which DPR has already been formulated. He said work on bridge in Panzan-Bagh-e-Bachroo, Kakawring, Sogam, Badipora, Kralwari, Nowpora-Berwan, Hafroo Batapora is in full swing and adequate funds have been earmarked for their timely completion.
The Minister also sought cooperation of the people in conserving power energy, adding that Rs 2500 crore is being expended on import of electricity annually. He announced that a 2nd mini hydle power house shall be constructed at Branwar, for which the Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy has agreed to provide funds for the project.
