CIC asks people to make use of RTI tool
Srinagar, July 4: The Chief Information Commissioner, G R Sufi Monday asked the people to come forward and utilize the most powerful Act, Right To Information (RTI) for seeking any information either for the public interest or in personal capacity.
Explaining in detail the Right To Information Act, he said by simply submitting an application to the nominated Public Information Officer of the concerned department, the applicant can seek any information about various issues pertaining to the public interest and within three days he will get that information.
“If the said officer fails to provide information within a stipulated period, he can be penalized under the powers of the Act.”
He said the applicants have the right to know about the expenditure incurred on the various development works of the said area from which the applicant belongs to.
Referring to the strict implementation of the Act, he said that some people who sought information from their concerned PIOs got benefited by this Act.
He said that the old city area has a number of burning issues and the people of this area have not only good opportunity, but have also the right to seek information about these issues.
The Chief Information Commissioner was addressing a grand function held at Shahi-Hamdan Community Centre organized by Fallah-ie-Behbood Committee, Khawja Bazar Nowhatta to know about the RTI Act.
