Omar releases book on handicrafts

Srinagar, July 4: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today released a book on handicrafts titled ‘The Handicrafts of Kashmir,’ an official spokesman said.
The book has been published by the Durga Dass Publishers in collaboration with the Kilo Force of Army and the local artisans, he said, adding the book is a photo feature of the development of handicrafts of Kashmir and showcases the artistic skill of artisans and fantastic creation of designs.
While speaking at the occasion Chief Minister lauded the role of Army in the social activities in the state. He said that the present initiative of the Army to help in publishing of an informative and creative book on Kashmir handicrafts would go in a big way to showcase Kashmir handicrafts and the magic of artisans.
The Chief Minister said that government, traders in the handicraft market and artisans have to jointly work to restore the glory of world famous Kashmir arts and crafts. “We have to give feeling to the craftsmen that their works are truly appreciated by ensuring remunerative returns to them”, he said underlining the need for showcasing handicrafts of Kashmir beyond Jammu and Kashmir boundaries.
The General Officer Commanding of Srinagar based Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General S A Hasnain was also present on the occasion.
