Kishtwar, July 5: Protests continued in this mountainous township on the second consecutive day Tuesday after election of a Sarpanch was reversed by the appellant authority.
Reports said hundreds of protestors assembled in Mugalmaidan and Chingam areas of Tehsil Chatroo and staged demonstrations against the verdict.
Pertinently election of a Sarpanch from Drubeel Panchayat was reversed by the Additional Deputy Development Commissioner, Kishtwar who declared nine rejected votes as valid. The lost candidate Piaray Lal, backed by Congress, was declared victorious on the seat by five votes.
The supporters of the earlier declared winner, Sarpanch Puran Chand took to street against the verdict. They accused the appellant authority of having reversed the verdict under political and personal influence.
The protestors also burnt the effigy of the MLA Inderwal and former minister, GM Saroori for his alleged role in the verdict.
