R&B CAUGHT NAPPING on alternative road to aerodrome
DESPITE the importance of the Rawalpora-Pir Bagh link road via a canal which connects the Airport Road with alternative Rangreth Road, the Roads and Building (R&B) department has miserably failed to repair it.
Ironically this is despite the fact that during past months of drainage work on the Airport Road, the aerodrome traffic was being diverted via this Kacha road.
“The government shouldn’t have ignored the importance of this road as it’s the only alternative road link of reaching the aerodrome,” said a senior official.
On the other hand eyebrows are being raised on the working of the R&B on as to why instead of macadamizing this important road on priority, a link road through Humhama interiors was macadamized “only because some influential people own lands there.”
Traffic experts said the canal link road needs to be macadamized on priority basis.
“What if there’s some trouble on the Hyderpora Road? How will the travelers access the airport,” argued a senior police official.
Despite repeated attempts, the R&B Chief Engineer Nazir Ahmed didn’t respond to phone calls.
When contacted the MoS R&B Javed Ahmed Dar said he wasn’t sure about the link road condition.
“I was told that it has been macadamized… I’ll soon have to personally visit (the link road) to know the ground reality,” the Minister told Greater Kashmir.
Pertinently, most of those at the helm of affairs seem to be ignorant about the vitality of the link road. It was only after personal intervention of IGP Traffic Hemant Kumar Lohia in April that the civil administration was informed about the bad condition of the canal road. Still it hasn’t been repaired.
