Srinagar, July 6: In a broad daylight robbery, an unidentified gunman Wednesday decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs three lakh from a shop at busy Hari Singh High Street. 
 Reports said a man carrying an AK-47 looted pack of gold ornaments from “Sharjah Ornaments” after threatening its proprietor Lateef Ahmed.
 “At around 9:30 AM a man posing as customer entered the shop and was seeing earrings. He asked Lateef to weigh one pair of earnings .The man opened the bag and placed the pack of earrings in it. When objected by Lateef, he wielded gun and threatened to shoot him if he raised voice or rang anybody,” Lateef’s partner, Haji Zahoor Ahmed said.
 “The man ran away while displaying the gun,” he said, adding that though chased he couldn't be caught.
 Meanwhile, after the incident all the shopkeepers in the commercial hub closed their shops to protest against “insecurity”.
 “This robbery has put question mark on policing in the City.  Even in heart of summer capital, shopkeepers are not safe. Today’s incident shows that there is no difference between Srinagar and Chambal Ghati,” a group of shopkeepers told Greater Kashmir.
 “How can a man carrying gun escape from the prying eyes of the police and other forces here,” said a shopkeeper wishing anonymity.
 Following the assurance by top police officers, the shopkeepers reopened their shops.
 When contacted, sub divisional police officer Shergarhi Muzaffar Ahmed said police is investigating the matter.
 “We have registered an  FIR on the complaint of shopkeeper,” he said.
