Maternity Hospitals in JK to get 100 percent central funding
New Delhi, July 7: Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved construction of two maternity hospitals, one at Gandhi Nagar Jammu and another at Srinagar with 100 percent funding by the Centre. This was disclosed in meeting Minister for Health & Horticulture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma held here today with Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Sham Lal took up various important issues with the Union Minister. He said involvement of ASHAs, Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) etc. have been already launched in the State to keep track of every pregnant woman and child in her respective area for ensuring their complete antenatal and postnatal checkups and immunization of children.
The Minister apprised Azad that the State has drawn up a proposal for engagement of one ISM Doctor and Dawasaaz in each of AD for mainstreaming the AYUSH for which the financial implications have been worked out to the tune of Rs.8.25 crores. The idea of Male Multipurpose Health Workers in Medical Aid Centers (MACs) was also placed before the Union Minister and he was apprised by Sharma that the State is in its effort to strengthen the Sub-centers and has provided second FMPHW in every sub-center under NRHM.
The biomedical waste management treatment facilities were also discussed in the meeting and the Minister apprised Azad that the State has proposed installation of 02 CBWTF, one each at Jammu and Srinagar, for which Rs. 7.40 crore have been agreed in principle by the Union Ministry. The proposal of supervisory vehicles for the field activities was also agreed to by the Ministry keeping in view the 90% hilly and mountainous terrain of the State.
