Academy condoles Husain’s demise
Srinagar, June 9: Academy of Art, Culture and Languages condoled the demise of noted painter MF Husain who passed away in London this afternoon.
An official spokesman said : “Husain had a close association with the State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. He was the first Indian artist to attend the inaugural All India Painters’ Camp held at Srinagar in 1964 and enjoys the distinction of having painted about a dozen paintings for the Academy.”
“During his lifetime Husain also acted as a contact person for the Academy and was instrumental in arranging painters of national repute for Academy’s annual All India Painters’ Camp,” he added.
Condoling his demise Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that Husain was “a great contemporary Indian painter and it was a moment of gloom for the lovers of art that a person of his standing died in a far away land.”
Recalling his association with the Academy Zafar said that Husain was like a “father figure for Academy’s exhibition staff who he guided from time to time.”
Before concluding the condolence meet prayers were held for peace to the departed soul.
