City filmmaker bags PSBT fellowship

Srinagar, June 11: A City filmmaker Bilal A Jan hailing from Bag-e-Sunder Bala, Chattabal has bagged a prestigious fellowship of Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) for making a documentary film.
The film Broken Silence shall portray ‘Violence against women’ in J&K.
Jan talking to Greater Kashmir said “violence against women in Kashmir had risen phenomenally in past 22 years.”
Pertinently, Jan’s first film The lost childhood which portrayed exploitation of working children in Kashmir Valley, was widely acclaimed at national and international level and was shown at Tehran International Short Film Festival and Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2008.
The film won S R NINA SUGHATI Award for best director in conceptual cinema and also won a prize at first ever J&K Film Festival organized by J&K Cultural Academy for Art, Cultural and Languages in 2010.
