Srinagar, June 11: Paying rich tribute to its senior leaders Muhammad Afzal Beg and Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah on their death anniversaries, the National Conference (NC) Saturday called them “pillars of the party who stood by Sher-e-Kashmir when his own people left him”.
The function which was held at NC headquarters at Nawa-e-Subh complex was attended by large number of party men including senior leaders.
Addressing the gathering senior party leader and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said: “Both the leaders withstood the hardships with Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Abdullah to flourish the party stand.”
Describing Shah as an able administrator, Rather termed him the “founder of autonomy document”.
In his address senior party leader and MLA Choudary Muhammad Ramzan termed the deceased leaders as “most loyal” members of the party.
“They worked for the cause of autonomy and protection of legal rights of people,” he said.
“They even sacrificed their power for the benefit of people.”
Senior leader Sharif-ud-Din Shariq termed Muhammad Afzal Beg as the “frontrunner in the movement against autocratic rule”.
“He played a vital role in reviving the democratic setup in the state”, he said.
Mohi-Ud-Din Shah’s son and MLA Batamaloo Irfan Ahmad Shah while speaking on the occasion thanked the people for their “faithfulness towards the leadership.”
“The participation of large number of people in today’s function proved that the people haven’t forgotten their leaders. It shows that the National Conference is evolving as the strong party which fights for people’s rights”, Shah said.
Meanwhile Fateha Khawani was organized at the graveyard of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah on his 7th death anniversary.
