No security for panchs, sarpanchs: IGP
Srinagar, June 15: The Inspector General Police Kashmir Range, S M Sahai, Wednesday made it clear that newly elected panchs and sarpanchs can’t be provided security by the police.
“We can’t provide security to panchs and sarpanchs separately. They are public representatives and need to interact with people more,” Sahai told a local news agency KNS.
He blamed militancy and gun for the rising graph of crime in Kashmir. “Drug addiction has become a new challenge now and graph of crime is increasing by the day. Parents have lost control over their children and it is because of the gun culture. During last year’s unrest, parents had no information where their children used to be,” he said.
The IGP claimed that police have launched a massive manhunt to curb the activities of drug peddlers in Kashmir. “In south Kashmir, 75 percent bang cultivation has been destroyed,” he claimed.
