Govt to intensify vigil to check man-animal conflict
Jammu, June 16: In order to avoid the man-animal confrontation the Jammu and Kashmir government today asked the Wildlife department to intensify vigil in vulnerable areas.
The Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf while speaking at a meeting convened to review the functioning of the Forest and its allied departments here said, “The Wildlife department has to intensify vigil to check man-animal conflict.”
Referring to the incident of killing of a minor by leopard in Batote area, the minister asked the officers to take all necessary steps to avoid any such incidents in future.
He called for keeping a close vigil in the habitations located around forest areas while directing the Wildlife department functionaries to respond quickly on receiving any information about the wild animals straying into populated areas.
The minister also instructed for close surveillance to check timber smugglers and green felling. For this, he stressed upon the Forest Protection Force (FPF) and Forest officers to work in close coordination.
