Slathia for producing cost effective handloom products

Srinagar, June 16: Minister for Industries & Commerce, S S Slathia has stressed the need for producing cost effective yarn by utilizing local wool. He said it will promote handloom sector on sustained basis. Reviewing the performance of the J&K Handloom Development Corporation here this afternoon, the minister said processing of handloom fabrics for high valuation was imperative to give impetus to the handloom production and sales. He also called for development and production of fast market driven handloom products of international standards that would yield in better returns.
The meeting, according to an official statement, was attended by Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Umang Narula, Managing Director, J&K HDC, Showket Ali and other concerned officers. The Minister asked the management of the corporation to start on large scale weaving of Kani Shawls in antique designs and fine quality Basoli Pashmina Shawls which are in high demand adding that work on recreation and development of embroidered Pashmina Shawls in documented designs and colour motifs should be started forthwith. He directed for devising well knit marketing strategy across the country to enhance sales.
The MD of the Corporation informed that work in recreation of 25 Pashmina Shawls has been taken up whereas about 159 Basoli Pashmina Shawls were produced during the last fiscal.
