North City Mohallas seek end to night curtailments
Seek CM’s intervention
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, June 17: The residents of north City areas like Jan Mohalla, Baghwanpora, Lal Bazar, Shahampora, Nowhatta and adjacent localities in Shahr-e-Khaas have complained that the areas reel under darkness for two nights a week.
The Jan Mohalla Lal Bazar residents said: “We are facing two night power curtailments a week( on Saturday and Wednesday from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM) and also a day curtailment due to which we find it immensely inconvenient to live in these hot summer conditions.”
“We are facing this power crisis at a time when our children are preparing for exams,” the residents lamented.
Given the summer heat, the residents of Shamapora said: “In the absence of power supply, all electronic devices like coolers, fans and ACs go useless… Life without electricity is simply impossible.”
Similar were the views of Nowhatta residents. They said the locality faces night curtailments on Friday and Tuesday from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Meanwhile the Srinagarites have appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also the power minister to look into the matter and get the night curtailments revoked.
