‘Govt keen to popularize IT’

Srinagar, June 1: Minister for Science and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said Information Technology (IT) is emerging as a major job market across the globe.
 Speaking to under-training students at DOEACC Centre Rangrath after inaugurating MCA Lab in the campus, the minister exhorted the students to develop broader perspective of job generation.
 He said government is encouraging those who want to set up their own income generating ventures by way of providing consultancy and financial support.
 Ruhullah said though IT is on threshold in the state, efforts are being made to explore it fully in view of its growing intervention in day to day life. Government has formulated several programmes for boosting IT sector in the State, he said, adding the objective is to take it to every household of the State.
 He said some states like, Andhra Pradesh, Karnatka, Maharastra and Gujjrat have made considerable progress in the IT field roping in private sector.
 He said that State has passed through an unfortunate spell of turmoil for 2 decades which has affected every sphere of life including IT industry.
 Earlier, giving resume of the activities of the centre, Moon said that centre has been established in 1983 jointly by Union Ministry of Information Technology and State Government aimed to conducting training and offering consultancy in the area of IECT.
