Testing Completed
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 1: The largest cellular provider in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), is all set to launch the 3G services in the State by the end of this month.
For launching the 3G facility, BSNL has upgraded its infrastructure with state-of-the-art equipment and successfully conducted testing for feasibility of the special service. “Our testing for 3G has been successful and we are making all efforts to launch the service by the end of this month in cities and major towns of the State, Chief General Manager (CGM) J&K Circle, R K Koul, told Greater Kashmir.
Kaul said the highlight of the BSNL’s 3G service would be crystal clear video call besides high speed mobile broadband. He said out of 1050 towers in the State, 450 have been upgraded for 3G services.
“We assure that our 3G services would be unmatched. We have a cellular subscriber base of over eight lakhs and we are hopeful that most of them would avail the 3G services,” Kaul said.
Pertinently, Reliance Communications became the first mobile operator to start 3G services in J&K earlier this year followed by Aircel.
The Senior General Manager, BSNL Kashmir, Mahesh Shukla said out of 435 towers in Kashmir, 160 of urban areas of the Valley have been upgraded for 3G services. “With the launch of 3G services, we are hopeful that our customer base will increase manifold,” the GM said.
3G is the next generation of mobile communications systems. It enhances the services such as multimedia, high speed mobile broadband, internet access with the ability to view video footage and live TV on your mobile handset.
