Hurriyat (M) revokes IuM suspension
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, June 1: Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday revoked the suspension of its constituent Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen on the recommendations of its two-member panel.
During the executive meet chaired by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq here, the amalgam decided to withdraw the suspension after holding discussion on the recommendations submitted by the panel.
The panel led by Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat with other member Aga Syed Hassan had recommended restoration of the party membership, which was suspended following its April 20 meeting with the interlocutors appointed by Centre.
“After discussing the report of the panel threadbare, it was unanimously decided to revoke their suspension,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told Greater Kashmir.
Reacting to the development, IuM president Masroor Abbas Ansari said that they have not received any communication from the conglomerate yet.
“We will decide on the further course of action in the working committee of the party after receiving formal letter from them,” he said.
After the suspension, Ansari had defended his party saying the interlocutors had arrived at Moulana Abbas’s residence “unannounced” and he could not turn them away as it was against Islamic teachings. The party questioned the Hurriyat’s decision saying the suspension was ‘in contravention to the constitution of the conglomerate.’
