Sopore police arrests 27 timber smugglers, 6 in ‘murder’ case

Sopore, June 1: The Superintendent of Police, Sopore Altaf Khan today said the police had arrested 27 timber smugglers, a burglar and three teasers in the area. 
 Addressing media men, Altaf said police arrested 27 smugglers and recovered huge quantity of illicit timber from their go-downs, besides, seizing two Tata Mobiles (JK05-1073) and (JK05-4153) with illicit deodar, Kail etc. measuring 110 fts.
 Altaf said, a vehicle stealing case was solved after the arrest of Amir Bashir Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Noor Bagh Sopore. One JCB and Tipper have been recovered from Amir, he said.
 Giving details about the alleged murder of Habibullah Dar, 40, son of Muhammad Sultan Dar of Harityar, he said police succeeded in solving the case within 24 hours by arresting six accused. An FIR No. 143/2011 under section 341, 354,323,302 RPC was registered in Police Station and investigation is going on, he added.
 Moreover, he said police arrested three alleged eve teasers indulging in immoral activity at Degree College Sopore.
 He said Muhammad Ashraf Lone son of Ghulam Muhammad Lone of Zaloora was arrested in fake currency case and Rs 10000 (fake currency) had been recovered from his possession.
 SP Sopore said the police had started a helpline No. 01954-222312 which will be available 24x7.
