SP College Green Club hosts environment awareness program

Srinagar, June 1: The Green Club of S P College on Wednesday organised an environmental awareness program and released a magazine highlighting its activities.
 The Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department, Tanveer Jahan who was the chief guest on this occasion, impressed upon the College students to work for conservation of the environment.
 “Kashmir has a fragile environment and it is our collective responsibility to conserve it for our better future. The Green Club in this college should expand its activities to other colleges and work towards spreading awareness about environmental conservation,” Tanveer Jehan said adding the Government would extend all support for eco-friendly activities.   
 On the occasion, former principal conservator of Forests, A R Wani underscored the role of youth in environmental preservation. “We have to train our youth to become eco-missiles for spreading awareness about conserving our environment,” he said while appreciating the efforts of Green Club.
 The principal SP College, Prof Zahoor Ahmad Chatt highlighted the achievements of the college and activities of the students towards environmental conservation.
 Prof. Humaira Qadir, Team Leader, Green Club presented a report of the activities of the Green Club carried out during past few years. A skit on environmental awareness, presented by the student members of the Green Club, lauded by the audience.
 Later, a college newsletter ‘The Pratap’ and the Green Club Magazine were released. A documentary ‘Home’ was screened for the students by IYCN on this occasion.
 Prof. Mukhbil Chisti, encouraged the students to carry out such activities in future also while Prof. Muhammad Afzal Mir presented the vote of thanks.
 Among others who attended the function included Hemant Sharma, Special Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department, Prof. Muqbil Chisti, Officer on Special Duty, Higher Education Department and Ms Reetu Asrani, representative  IYCN and Senior Editor Greater Kashmir, Arif Shafi Wani.
