GEELANI GOES ONLINE
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, June 19: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has entered cyberspace by launching the website of his party Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH).
The website, which can be accessed through three different addresses ww.syedaligeelani.info www.huriyatconference.com and www.tehreekhurriyat.com, offers information about Geelani’s biodata ranging from his personality profile to the books authored by him. It contains interactive features like question and answer, blog, forum and ask a question.
The spokesman of Hurriyat (G) Ayaz Akbar told Greater Kashmir that realization of reaching out to the world through internet in this cyber age was felt long ago by them.
“It was the need of the hour to apprise the world about the struggle and sufferings of Kashmiris through internet. The work on it started 2-3 months ago and the website was launched last week,” Akbar said.
Akbar said that Geelani himself was interested in having a website to make the world aware about the Kashmir cause. It has news, updates, articles, videos and picture gallery sections.
Pertinently, the internet activism is fast catching up in Kashmir politics with both mainstream and separatist parties having their full fledged website and fan pages on the social networking websites. Even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s daily tweets on microblogging social networking website Twitter make it to the front pages of the newspapers here.
