UN intervenes

This refers to the news “UN takes note of Kashmir killings.” It is encouraging to see the world body acknowledging that human rights violations are taking place in Kashmir. However, it is painful that none of the security force personnel, involved in last year’s killings, has been punished so far. Justice still eludes the families of the victims. What kind of a system is this where even killings go unnoticed and the killers go unpunished? This denial of justice is one of the fundamental reasons why people take to the streets and demand justice every now and then. This is what happened in Shopian and this is what happened last year. There has to be accountability in the system. I believe UN should pressurize India to act against those who are found guilty of violating human rights. By denying and delaying justice to the families of the victims, the so-called people’s representatives in the mainstream camp are proving themselves to be insensitive to the sufferings of the people of Kashmir.
