OMAR CONGRATULATES SARPANCHS, PANCHS

‘Be prepared to shoulder greater responsibility’

TARIQ RASOOL

Sonawari (Sumbal), June 20: Expressing satisfaction over the successful completion of Panchayat elections in the state, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Monday congratulated newly elected Sarpanchs and Panchs asking them to be prepared for shouldering the greater responsibility of public service delivery.
In sequel to his interactions with newly elected Panchayat members at constituency level the Chief Minister today addressed the public representatives here in north Kashmir.
Terming completion of peaceful, free and fair Panchayat elections as an historic event, Omar said that his Government had achieved an important milestone in its pursuit to involve public representatives in the process of planning and development.
He said Panchs and Sarpanchs have to render multifaceted activities in the development process to take the state ahead on road to prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
Emphasizing the significance of Panchayats in giving good governance, Omar said that monitoring of schemes, curbing the chances of corruption and fast tracking area specific development would get a forward push by the establishment of Panchayat Raj in the state. “You have a greater responsibility to deliver on socio-economic front and ensure the benefits of schemes to people universally” he told newly elected Panchayat members asking them to be sincere and dedicated.
“People have reposed tremendous faith in you and the democratic system. This is evident by the largest turnover in elections and enthusiasm shown by the voters to elect Panchayat members”, he told Panchs and Sarpanchs and reminded them of their stupendous responsibility of acting as true representatives of the people. “Your dedication, honesty and sincerity to deliver on development front and help redressal of public grievances is the litmus test for your success and the success of Panchayat Raj in the state”, he said adding that Government would ensure transfer of powers to Panchayats to make them viable, effective and delivering institutions.
Omar said that during his recent visit to the Delhi he met the Prime Minister and other senior leaders who expressed happiness over the conduct of peaceful Panchayat elections in the State and told me to convey their congratulations to the elected members and the general voters for the same.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated 4-day training camp for Panchs and Sarpanchs of the constituency.
