2 militants killed in gunfights
Srinagar, June 23: Two militants were killed in separate encounters across the state on Thursday, police and reports said.
“Soldiers of 36 Rashtriya Rifles spotted an armed militant near Razdan pass on Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir, 100 kms from here, during a routine patrol. The militant opened fire on the soldiers, which was retaliated triggering a gunfight in which one unidentified militant was killed,” sources said.
Meanwhile, police claimed that a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed in a gunfight in Jammu’s Poonch district on Thursday.
“A joint team of police and army launched searches in Chamraid area of Bafliaz belt this morning. Militants present there resorted to indiscriminate firing and tried to break the cordon. The fire was retaliated triggering a gunfight in which one militant has been killed so far,” a police official said.
The gun battle was on when reports last came in, the official added.
