Srinagar, June 23: To discuss the applicability of the Central Warehousing Act-2007 in the interest of farmers and other stake holders in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal today held a meeting with the representatives of Central Ware Housing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) here today.
 Chairman WDRA,  Dinesh Rai gave a detailed account of the Central Warehousing Act-2007 and its various provisions. He said the introduction of the Act in J&K will help the farmers, growers and other stake holders to avoid distress sale of agricultural commodities and would help them to gain easy access to loans from the banks adding that farmers will also benefit from wider market facilities available to them across the country. Trading of agriculture and horticulture commodities through an electronic process of spot exchange will help to boost agri business and better returns to farmers, he said.
 About the applicability of the Act to J&K, Madhav Lal termed the Act as highly beneficial and said that farmers and stake holders especially related to the horticulture industry in the state can utilize the facilities provided under its various provisions. The warehouses would help them derive maximum benefits, adding that the state government will give it due consideration.
 Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Iqbal Khanday, besides other officers were also present in the meeting.
