6 MLAs approach Speaker; seek recognition

Gupta approaches HC against expulsion

CRISIS DEEPENS IN BJP

Jammu, June 2: In a dramatic turn of events, six suspended Bhartiya Janata Party MLAs have reportedly approached the Speaker seeking recognition of a `separate group’ in the House, while expelled MLA Chaman Lal Gupta today moved to the High Court against his expulsion by the party.
Sources in the party said six suspended MLAs had reposed faith on the expelled MLA and former Legislative Party head, Chaman Lal Gupta.
“The Speaker was informed that majority of the MLAs were with Chaman Lal Gupta and only he be considered as their leader in the House”, sources said adding, “It was further demanded that in case the BJP high command was adamant on its stand, the seven MLAs be registered as separate group in the LA”.
It was reliably learnt that the BJP high command is, in the meanwhile, expected to deliberate on the state unit affairs in its national executive meeting to be held at Lucknow on Friday.
Gupta also filed a writ petition in the Jammu High Court challenging the order issued by the party to expel him from the basic membership for six years.
The Court after hearing Gupta’s counsel issued notice to the state, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly, Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Deputy Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Jugal Kishore MLA, Ashok Khajuria MLA, Sukhnadan Singh MLA, Sham Lal Choudhary MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party through its secretary of Parliamentary Board.
Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra accepted notice on behalf of State. The court ordered listing of the petition on June 3.
“I have not only sought the quashment of the order issued by the party high command but also a clarification from the speaker LA as who was the leader of the six MLAs in the House”, Gupta told Greater Kashmir.(GKNN)
