CM for phased expansion of Hazratbal shrine

Srinagar, June 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the compound of Hazratbal shrine would be expanded so that more devotees could be accommodated during festivals and other important occasions.
“Keeping in view the extraordinary faith of Kashmiri people and their devotion towards shrine of Hazratbal Dargah, it is necessary that all possible measures are taken by Muslim Waqaf Board for phased expansion of the shrine compound so that large number of people who gather there on each Friday and Milad days are conveniently accommodated”, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as per an official handout said, while presiding over 14th meeting of Waqaf Board.
Minister for Finance, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Vice Chairman Waqaf Board and other members of the Board attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the Waqaf Board has completed 80 to 90 % land record entries and identification of its properties. All assets and stock registers stand completed.
It was pointed out in the meeting that Rs. 80 lakh of Waqaf money is outstanding with different persons for whom the Chief Minister announced conduct of special audit to identify chronic defaulters.
The Board had a detailed discussion on the steps being taken for illumination of Hazratbal shrine. It was decided that a building would be constructed for Bibi Haleema Nursing College.
It was given out in the meeting that several cracks have developed in Ashmuqam Shrine of Zanshah Sahib(RA). The Chief Minister constituted a committee of Chief Engineers and concerned officers of Geology and Mining to analyze the problem and take immediate measures for its repairing as well as that of the cave which houses the saint’s grave.
The Chief Minister was informed that the Waqaf Board has registered progress in all its activities and during the last financial year, it has made saving of Rs. 4 crore, out of the revenue received from its different assets available in various parts of the State.
