Looking into motive: Police
Srinagar, June 2: Reacting sharply to the army’s statement regarding presence of militants in Leh, the police while denying such claims said it’s looking into the “motive” of the army personnel who searched some hotels in Leh.
The police also made it clear that the army can’t carry out search operations in Leh unilaterally as there is no Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in force in the desert district.
“Taking cognizance of a statement of the defence spokesman and as quoted by PTI, the police want to inform that there is no presence of militants in Leh,” a handout issued by the police spokesman said.
It said the police was looking into the “motives” of the army personnel who searched some hotels in Leh during the intervening night of May 30 and 31. “Since the Armed Force Special Power Act is not in force in Leh, the police has lodged FIR No. 84/2011 under section 452, 148, 342 RPC on a complaint lodged with it,” the handout said.
