REGAL CHOWK IN SEWAGE MESS

Srinagar, June 2: Cleaning drains presumably means dumping the sewage in a market place no less than Regal Chowk in the heart of Srinagar. This is what one could infer about the role of civic body authorities who got the drain cleaned only to leave the filth unattended in the busy marketplace.
With rise in mercury, the stench made it difficult for people to walk the busy road as many could be seen covering their noses.
This is not the first time that the sewage had been left on the main road there.  A few months back close to Eid celebrations, the sewage was dumped right outside the manhole.
And like then, this time again the worst affected were the shopkeepers there who complained that their business suffered heavy loses and the potential customers stayed away.
“How can you expect a customer to drop-in when the shopkeeper is himself finding it inconvenient to stay back due to stench?” argued a salesman at a popular bookstore Password while pointing towards the filth outside the shop.
The shopkeepers complained that even though they approached the Srinagar Municipal Corporation authorities to get the mess cleaned, there was no response from the other side.
“We called them (SMC officials) early in the morning but nothing fruitful came forth,” the added.
Despite repeated attempts the concerned officials couldn’t be contacted for comment.
