Court records statement of victim’s father

SEX ABUSE CASE

D A RASHID

Srinagar, June 29: The Sessions Court has recorded the statement of the father of a victim in sex abuse case, which rocked Valley in 2006.
“The father of the victim stated before the Court that the accused had approached him with a promise that his daughter would be given a job in Delhi and she would earn a handsome salary. After few months, when my daughter appeared all of a sudden, she narrated what she had gone through in Delhi,” Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while quoting the victim’s father, told Greater Kashmir. “Given the sensitivity and grave nature of allegations, the trial was held in-camera.”
Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had directed the CBI to take up the cases related to sex abuse scam for reinvestigation on June 20, 2006, following which the CBI registered the case on July 27, and filed a charge sheet on October 24, 2008 in the Sessions Court here.
After the High Court directions, the CBI registered three regular cases and out of one RC, seven cases were filed in the Court.
“Out of the nine cases charge sheeted in the court, the trial in the seven cases is going on at Chandigarh Court and two cases are being heard in the Srinagar Court”, the SPP said.
