Speedy information
This refers to the Chief Information Commissioner’s statement that he would ensure speedy disposal of applications filed under the Right to Information Act. The RTI Act is not making much progress in the state, though the legislation has been brought in 2009. I don’t know how many applications are pending in government offices under RTI. But there are many departments where there are no Public Information Officers and the CIC is not taking any action against the defaulters. The RTI is bound to receive set back if information is not provided to the applicants in time and if the complaints are not disposed off quickly. The CIC should make sure that all the departments have PIOs and the information is released in time. Penalty must be imposed against the erring officials. This would be a strong message for other officers also.
