Govt harassing my family: War
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, June 6: Accusing the State Government of harassing his family, the Chairman of Peoples Political Party, Hilal Ahmad War on Monday said that the passport issued to his brother bars him from traveling to Pakistan
Addressing a press conference here, War said on the directions of High Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a passport to his brother, Ajaz Ahmad War on June 4.
“The passport has been issued with a validity of just one year. Besides, it has been written on the passport that he can travel to all the countries except Pakistan. This is a sheer violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,” War added.
“It is not for the first time that my family has been harassed and deprived of basic rights by the State authorities. But this process of persecution, harassment and intimidation has continued right from the October 1947,” he said.
The PPP chief said this should serve as an “eye-opener” for civil society groups and human rights activists. He urged the prominent human rights activists including Gautam Navlakha, Arundhati Roy, Angana Chatterji to take a strong note of this "harassment" and take up the case with New Delhi and International forums.
