Srinagar, June 6: The City police of north and west zones has recovered 14 stolen vehicles, 347 logs of timber, gold ornaments and other items worth Rs 50 lakhs while 15 accused have been detained in a week, the police said Monday.
This was stated by the City police chief Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari at a news conference. Giving details, the SSP said that 14 vehicles which included six Maruti-800 Cars, two Tata Sumo’s, one Load Carrier, a Honda City and Ford Icon were recovered.
“15 persons involved in these thefts have been arrested so far,” the SSP said. He said gold ornaments worth 9 Lakhs which were recovered have been handed over to its legal owner on the spot.
Talking to Greater Kashmir during the sidelines of the event SP West Dr Sunil Gupta said thefts have drastically come down in his zone since police initiated some new measures including local involvement in the “Chowkidari system for shops” there.
“We are at the job and more recoveries are expected,” Dr Sunil said.
The north City head SP Shokat Shah said police was actively following crime cases.
“Some of the theft cases had been recently filed and we have solved them,” the SP said adding Honda City and Ford were a part of the recovery.
To a question on recovery of timber he confirmed that the catch included Deodar and Kail.
Shah said the police would intensify drive against drug peddlers.
