JK to to rope in MNCs for e-governance

Srinagar, June 7: As part of its initiative to implement the National e-Governance Program in J&K, the government is planning to host a mega IT expo in near future and rope in MNCs.
Minister for Science and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Tuesday said: “We hope to conduct an IT expo next year where the state would take up the issues of e-governance with experts and representatives of multinational companies.”
Speaking at State Level Conference on e-Governace Scenario in J&K which was organised by Central University of Kashmir, the minister said: “With the implementation of e-governance in J&K, the government functioning would become more transparent.”
“The secretariat will get connected to the block head quarters and finally it would be connected to common service centres to bring the important services to the door steps of citizens through National E-Governance Program (NeGP)”, he said.
As part of its initiative to implement the National e-Governance Program in the State, the IT department, also proposed to setup a State Wide Area Network (SWAN) envisaging connectivity between all government offices in J&K on a common, High Speed Data Network.
“This Intra-State Network is then to be connected to the National Network to enable the modernization of Communication infrastructure with an aim to improve Administrative efficiency,” he said.
The Minister said IT department has set up 550 Common Service Centres (CSC) out of the proposed target of 1104 fixed for providing services to the people in every nook and corner of the State. He said these CSCs would be connected with internet and other facilities providing connectivity to Block, Tehsil, district and provisional headquarter and there on to Civil Secretariat.
Secretary to IT Department, M K Dwivedi said the government had amended the rules to enable local entrepreneurs to take advantage of the e-governance project.
He said the ministry was planning to setup ‘State Data Centers’ at the end of this year and then only “The hardware architecture would be setup.”
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor Abdul Wahid Qureshi stressed on the popularity of IT education.
Earlier, Registrar, Central University of Kashmir, Dr. Abdul Gani said the IT conference is the first major initiative, organized by the department of IT aiming at sensitizing the students and stakeholders about the importance of e-governance and IT.
He said e-governance is major technological intervention in 21st century made use of in libraries, banking, commercial institutions, factories and other educational institutions. He assured that the University will provide all possible assistance to the State Government in popularizing IT and e-governance in the administration.
