Airtel launch 3G services in Valley
MOAZUM MUHAMMAD
Srinagar, June 8: Private telecom operator Bharti Airtel Wednesday started 3G services in the summer capital of the state.
Interacting with the media persons here at the launch ceremony, CEO Upper North Mobile Services Airtel, Shashi Arora, stated that 3G services would start from Srinagar followed by other districts within short time period.
“Powered by 160 sites in Srinagar alone, Airtel 3G services will gradually be launched across the state in weeks to come. We are going to start this service in Anantnag (Islamabad), Baramulla and Budgam in next few weeks,” he said.
Giving details about its features, he said as compared to other networks the company would provide much better services to the customers with latest features.
“The Airtel 3G services will offer high speed internet services, video calling, mobile TV, video talkies, video alerts, multiplayer gaming and much more,” he said adding “Mobile TV is specifically developed for Airtel.”
Airtel has two million customers in the state at present and hopes substantial number of them would choose 3G services.
“We are much focused to provide best and smooth services to our two million customers. We are number one telecom operator in Jammu and Kashmir. Customers in Kashmir will now be able to join three million plus Airtel customers across the country that are already accessing 3G services,” he said.
Replying to a query, he stated that the tariff would start from Rs 9 pack.
“Our tariff is very reasonable and competitive with added features. Our customers will be quite encouraging to use this service,” said Arora while demonstrating the service.
He said that customers would be quite happy to learn that they could access their favourite TV channels through their mobile phones.
“It is now reality to watch TV on mobile sets through Airtel 3G. One can simply access any channel at any place through mobile,” he said.
He said a first of its kind ‘internet usage calculator’ would enable customers analyze their current internet data usage and choose an Airtel 3G plan accordingly.
On the occasion, video calling was also demonstrated.
Earlier, Arora flagged off a mobile van from Sonawar to make people aware about 3G launch in Srinagar.
