Highway reopens after 2 days
‘2-Way Passenger Traffic Today’
Jammu, Feb 28: The Jammu-Srinagar Highway was today re-opened for vehicular traffic, two days after it was closed following heavy snowfall and rains.
"The highway has been reopened for one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu," police said.
Over 400 vehicles, which were stranded due to the closure of the highway, were cleared this morning, they said.
Landslides have been reported in Digdol area on the highway, they said, adding that Border Road Organisation men later cleared the snow and landslides from the highway.
To provide relief and medicare to the stranded passengers on the highway, the district police and civil administration have deployed various teams right up to Patnitop in the jurisdiction of district Udhampur.
Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police- Traffic G M Wadoo told Greater Kashmir that if weather remains fair passenger vehicles from both the sides would be allowed to ply on the Highway on Tuesday.
He urged the drivers to refrain from indulging in overtaking and rash driving.
