Drug peddler held from Malkha graveyard

Srinagar, Mar 11: A drug peddler was nabbed Friday with half a KG Charas from City’s big cemetery, the Malkha while six gamblers were caught red handed with a bet of Rs 1.2244 lakhs from an adjoining area, police said.
It said the drug peddler hailing from Tujjigar Mohalla, Makhdoom Sahib locality was caught while he was waiting for his clients in the graveyard.
“We had credible inputs that some drug peddlers were using the Malkha and other graveyards for the trafficking. Today we caught one of them,” the SP North City Shokat Shah told Greater Kashmir while confirming that an FIR has been lodged.
Meanwhile, in another raid, six gamblers were caught playing in the premises of Vishwa Bharti College, Rainawari.
Police said while four of the accused deal with Kashmir arts, two were laborers.
“They (names with held) hailed from Gil Kadal, Aali Kadal, Zoonimar and Saida Pora areas,” the police said.
The SP North said the police has started a special drive against the drug abuse and other social evils.
A few days ago, the north City police recovered a haul of drugs while four persons including a kingpin were grabbed.
The SP while seeking public co-operation in fight against the social evils said: “People should come forward and help us is making society free from social evils… Their role is vital.”
Pertinently, the Inspector General of Police, Shiv Morari Sahai is understood to have directed the police to rid of the menace of drug abuse.
