Let order be restored in the House
We have been routinely witnessing uproarious scenes, slogan shouting, protests, walkouts and even scuffle in the State Legislative Assembly. Not a single day passes without a bedlam. The opposition members particularly those belonging to PDP and BJP are in the forefront of creating ruckus and disrupting Assembly proceedings. They seem to have one point agenda – do not let the Assembly function smoothly and transact business. They do not miss any opportunity to rake up non-issues to stall the proceedings. For BJP members it is their anti-Kashmir tirade which keeps them on their tenterhooks. They thrive on anti-Muslim bashing and draw sustenance from it. Their whole ideology is Jammu centric and they see conspiracy and discrimination against Jammu in everything the Government does or does not do. PDP has its own agenda for disrupting proceedings. They want to seize every opportunity to criticize the Government for the sake of criticism. Their patience seems to be running out because they have been out of power for a while. In this scenario the speaker’s role becomes very crucial to bring order in the House but unfortunately he seems to be playing a partisan role. His ruling of not allowing the members of opposition to raise important issues has raised many eye brows. One redeeming feature, however, is Chief Minister who appears to be concerned about the problems confronting the people and is well meaning despite compulsions of coalition politics. He may have failed on many fronts but no one can find fault with him for not trying. His speech in the Legislative Assembly after Governor’s address rings with sincerity. He touched whole range of issues including crucial issues of revocation of AFSPA and DAA. We cannot attribute motives to him unless it is proved otherwise. Let all the political parties allow him to fulfill the promises he has made.
