Safaiwalas for dogs sterilization

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Mar 11: Expressing serious concern over the increasing population of dogs in Srinagar City, the Srinagar Municipal Safaiwalla and Mashkees Workers’ Union has suggested sterilization of dogs to overcome the menace.
The Union, at a meeting held here today with its chairman Sheikh Muhammad Sayeed in chair, rejecting as “false the rumours” spread by some elements that the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon, has ordered the killing of dogs in Valley.
“As the Administrator of SMC, Dr Asgar Samoon had in 2001 started a drive to castrate the dogs to control their increasing population. But after his transfer, the drive was stopped and never restarted till date. As a result, the increasing population of dogs has assumed alarming proportions in Srinagar City,” said a spokesman of the Union in a statement today, adding “Now that Dr Samoon is the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, we appeal him to issue orders for the sterilization of dogs in Srinagar City.”
The meeting was among others attended by the Union president Ghulam Muhammad, vice-chairman Fayaz Ahmad, advisory board chairman Chowdary Meraj-ud-Din Bujja, general secretary Abdul Rashid Baghwanpora, Abdul Rashid Trali and Ghulam Muhammad Dand.
