Military might
This refers to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s statement that Kashmir can’t be resolved through military might. It is important that India and Pakistan realize the importance of resolving the 60-year-old Kashmir issue. The members of Indian Parliament and civil society are also pressing upon India to make efforts towards the resolution of Kashmir. But in the Valley, instead, arrests of youth continue, which is unfortunate. It is better if India acknowledges that Kashmiris want resolution of the issue to live peacefully. Hundreds of people have lost their lives in the past 20 years of conflict. Let’s stop further bloodshed by resolving Kashmir through peaceful and democratic means. The separatist leadership must also enter into a dialogue process to make sure that the world comes to know about the real issues in Kashmir.
