JK seeks Rs 368 cr funding for irrigation projects

Jammu, Mar 15: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din has said that 205 irrigation canal projects of Rs 368.29 crore have been formulated and submitted to AIBP and NABARD for funding to upgrade irrigation facilities in Jammu division, of which 19 projects of Rs 12.05 crore belong to Kishtwar district.
This, according to an official statement, was stated by Minister while replying to a question by Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo in the Legislative Assembly here today.
The Minister said project report of Rs 45.15 crore for construction of Naigad canal Kishtwar have been cleared in 13th TAC meeting for AIBP funding.
He said the project report of Rs 50 lakh for construction of Ghom Nal Khul in Inderwal constituency have also cleared for AIBP funding, adding that these projects are pending for want of clearance certificate of the Forest department.
He said Union Ministry of Water Resources consider the projects only within the AIBP ceiling approved by the Planning Commission on annual basis for each state in consonance with the guidelines. He said as such due to constraint of sources, the projects are to be considered in phased manners by the Centre.
Replying to another question by Abdul Gaffar Sofi, the Minister said that Government has taken immediate steps for temporary restoration of the bunds, embankments of rivers and nallahs which were damaged due to floods last year in the State, adding that the damages of Veshow, Sonman and Mav nallahs in Homeshalibugh constituency have been also assessed and temporary restoration was taken up to provide the irrigation facilities to the Zamindars of the area.
This was stated by Minister while replying to a question by Abdul Gaffar Sofi in the Legislative Assembly here today. He said Government has taken various available options to explore irrigation facilities in the State. He said the labour component for construction of irrigation khuls has been decided to be covered under NREGA.
