SIT to quiz Dir CAPD, FCI Manager
SUGAR SCAM
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, Mar 15: In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team of police probing the multi-crore sugar scam Tuesday issued summons to Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department and Area Manager of Food Corporation of India to appear before them for questioning.
Widening its probe, SIT headed by SP South Srinagar, Sujeet Kumar served notices to Director CAPD, Joint director CAPD and Area Manager of FCI under section 160 CrPC to appear before it for questioning on March 17.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that the police would quiz officers of both the departments about the role of their middle rung officials in the scam.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation has also started its probe to investigate the role of FCI officials in the scam.
“We have seized vital documents from FCI office Jammu in connection with the case,” an official of CBI said.
More than 10 persons including six officials of both the departments have been arrested by SIT so far in the case. Both the departments have launched parallel probes and suspended their six employees. Police has also recovered ‘commission money’ of Rs 4 lakh from CAPD officials which they allegedly received from private transporters to provide acknowledgement receipt of sugar sold in black market.
While the prime accused in the scam, Paramjeet Singh, owner of Vikas Transport Company has been arrested, his manager Ravi Sharma is absconding.
