JK has 32.36 lakh BPL population

Jammu, Mar 16: The government has said the present below poverty line population in Jammu and Kashmir is 32.36 lakh.
Giving details, finance minister said in legislative council that the BPL census is conducted after a gap of every five years by the Union Ministry of Rural Development and the present BPL population in the State is 32.36 lakh as per door-to-door survey conducted during 2010 by the Ministry.
The survey has depicted 24.21 lakh (21.63% of population both Rural and Urban) as BPL population in the state during 2008, he maintained. He, however, said in terms of Government Order No. 821/GAD of 2009 dated 25.6. 2009, the process of reconciliation of BPL list of CAPD and RDD is going on and is still uncompleted.
