Speaker seeks report on KAS induction

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Mar 16: The Speaker Legislative Assembly, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Wednesday directed the Chief Secretary to hold an inquiry into the allegations against the Deputy Transport Commissioner for his induction into Kashmir Administrative Service allegedly in violation of norms and rules.
Taking a newspaper report seriously regarding induction of Deputy Transport Commissioner Bhumesh Sharma into KAS, the Speaker directed the Chief Secretary to hold an inquiry into the matter. “Action will be initiated against the official if facts of the news report are true otherwise the reporter shall be liable for action,” he remarked.
Referring to the news reports, PDP legislator Nizam-ud-Din Bhat drew the attention of the Speaker and sought clarification from the government over the wrong information furnished by the Transport Minister in the House.
He also drew the Speaker’s attention towards a local newspaper passing judgement over the Assembly proceedings.
The Speaker took a serious note of “distorted” reporting by some newspapers and warned them of action if they did not desist from doing so.
The Speaker while taking a serious view of the report said some newspapers were publishing news stories in violation of the regulatory norms of the Assembly.
He referred to the news report in which MLA M Y Tarigami was quoted as making a remark against a community in the Assembly and “it was factually incorrect as he never made any such statement in the Assembly.”
“I direct all legislators to raise the issues of their constituencies and don’t raise any issue pertaining to the news reports published in newspapers. Some media organisations are manipulating and distorting the facts,” he maintained.
He also warned the media persons to desist from “wrong reporting” and said strict action will also be initiated against them in case any MLA approaches him about ‘wrong media report.’
