Panchayat election a welcome step: Mir

Jammu, Mar 18: The chairman of Democratic Party (Nationalist), and the Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, on Friday hailed the initiative of the coalition government to hold the Panchayat elections in the state.
“This will help to strengthen the democracy at the grass root level besides empowering the people of rural areas,” Mir said in a statement.
He said that his party would strive to empower the JK youth in a positive direction. “Our resolve is to ensure that the youth pro-actively and positively participate in the affairs of the state” he said.
While giving out the agendas of the party, Mir said, “Our party believes in increasing the employment avenues of the youth which will open new vistas to them beyond the geographical limits of the state and in this regard, the party has impressed upon both the centre and the state governments to be capacity of our education and training instructions to the national and international levels.”
“We also request the Union government to reserve quotas for youth of our state especially Kashmir division in reputed educational and professional institutions of the country and in this regard the recent Rangarajan report should also be taken into consideration”, he elaborated.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s initiatives regarding eradication of corruption, Mir said, “Our party stands by it and would fully support the initiative. We have to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels so that the mechanism of providing better services and governance to the people is fulfilled.”
Thanking the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh for paving the way for establishing the heavy industries for manufacture of railway bridges in Jammu, Mir said that it would go a long way in opening the avenues of employment to the unemployed youth of the state.
