Murder case solved, 5 held: Police

ALTAF BABA

Baramulla, Mar 19: The Baramulla police Saturday claimed to have solved the murder of Nazir Ahmad Lone, a contractor and social activist of Kreeri, Pattan. The 55-year old was killed by two gunmen at his office in Kreeri on February 28.
Addressing media persons here, DIG North Kashmir Muneer Ahmad Khan said that five persons identified as Molvi Bashir Ahmad R/O Kreeri, Muhammad Ashraf Mir R/O Kalantra, Abdul Hamid R/O Kreeri, Ajaz Ahmad Dar and Muhammad Ashraf Kumar both residents of Khanpora Baramulla were arrested in connection with the killing.
He said it was the professional approach and concerted efforts of the police that the assailants out of frustration wrote a letter and threatened the eyewitnesses through phone calls not to disclose details to police.
Acting on these clues, police arrested Javed Ahmad Lone R/O Tilgam Pattan who had delivered a threatening letter to the father of one of the eyewitnesses. During the interrogation of Javed, the name of Parvez Ahmad Bukhari R/O Kreeri surfaced who in turn revealed that the letter was given by Bashir Ahmad Bukhari. The letterhead, according to police, was of Tehreeq-ul-Mujahideen which according to police is no longer an active militant organization.
Police while describing the main motive of the killing as an effort to revive the HM outfit and contractor rivalry said that the senior self styled commanders of HM, Ahsan Dar and Muzaffar Dar, presently in judicial custody, in a bid to revive the HM out fit in the area used Bashir Ahmad Bukhari as their tool and constituted two modules one for Kreeri and another for Palhalan. The main task of these modules according to DIG Baramulla was to kill 16 respectable persons of Kreeri and Pattan area so that a fear psychosis is created.
According to police the recycled HM militant Hillal Ahmad Palla R/O Dangerpora Pattan and his associates Ajaz Ahmad, Mudasir Nazir and Muhammad Ashraf Kumar are involved in the killing of Nazir Ahmad. The police said that Hilal Palla and Mudasir Nazir are still absconding while as the other accused have been arrested. Police also claimed the recovery of the weapon of murder from the accused persons.
