Tarigami for reorganising Archives deptt
Jammu Mar 19: CPI (M) MLA from Kulgam M Y Tarigami has pitched for reorganizing the department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums to ensure preservation of State’s rich and varied panorama of cultural treasure.
Participating in the discussion on grants of Tourism and Culture, he suggested micro filming of this vital record, he said the step will serve twin objectives of dispensing with space problem and ensuring continuity in the records so vital for preserving history.
Right now the incoming records from various departments and agencies has ceased since 1985 due to unavailability of space in the State’s museums and archives both in Jammu and Srinagar, he remarked, reminding that the department stores more than fifteen lakh files dating back to Mughul period.
He also sought adequate funding to Cultural Academy for payment to artists, writers and musicians, whom he described as culture scientists.
