‘300 COMPLAINTS REGISTERED WITH DC OFFICE IN 6 MONTHS’

Bandipora, Mar 20: In what could be described as the failure of Municipal Committee Bandipore in providing basic facilities to people, the Deputy Commissioner’s office here has received more than 300 complaints against the Committee inaction on various issues.
Officials in the DC office told Greater Kashmir that complaints received by the District Development Commissioner and Additional District Development Commissioner during the last six months alleged lackadaisical attitude of the Committee towards the public grievances.
“The complaints included absence of modern bus stands, drainage system, waste disposal mechanism, sanitation facilities, proper roads, footpath, drinking water facilities and other civic amenities,” the officials said adding the aggrieved residents has staged 30 demonstrations against the indifferent attitude of Municipality.
“The Municipality receives huge funding, but is unable to provide facilities to the people,” the officials said.
Sources said the Municipality had failed to implement the schemes after announcing them. “In last year, 31 such schemes were announced, but work wasn’t initiated on anyone,” sources added.
“Besides receiving annual budget of 4 lakh from State and around 5 crore for centrally sponsored schemes, MCB is also receiving huge amount in the form of taxes from the rented shopping complexes and toll posts in the area,” sources said adding the Municipality had however failed to provide much needed relief to the people of the district.
According to the Bandipora Welfare Forum President, Muhammad Ramzan the district lacks footpaths due to which the pedestrians were facing immense hardships everyday.
“Last year, the administration recommended construction of footpath on either side of the commercial streets, but nothing has been done on ground,” Ramzan said.
When contacted Executive Officer MCB, Abdul Rashid declined to comment.
Local Bodies, Director Muhammad Afzal said “I have recently joined the office and the mater will be taken up with the district officers so that people grievances can be redressed at an earliest.”
