‘Enhance Gujjar & Bakerwals’ quota in JK varsities, colleges’

Jammu, Mar 20: The Gujjar and Bakerwals today demanded enhancement of seats for their children in admission to all the Universities and professional colleges of Jammu and Kashmir.
 In a programme organized here by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, the speakers exhorted for establishment of a guidance cell in State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwal in civil secretariat to guide community youth in getting admissions, jobs under ST category in India in general and in State in particular.
 Secretary Tribal Foundation, Dr. Javaid Rahi, urged that Government should launch a  programme to collect data regarding the implementation of the policies in respect of admissions, appointments to teaching and non-teaching positions in the universities, and in the affiliated colleges .
 He said, there was 6 per cent reservation for Gujjars/Bakerwals in admission to Government professional colleges of J&K,  5 per cent in Jammu University and 3 per cent in Kashmir University as against 10 per cent approved quota at State level under ST category.
 He said, the community members would shortly meet Governor, N N Vohra in this regard.
