Amritsar Treaty
This refers to the article The day when nation was sold. The Treaty of Amritsar was the foundation stone of our Quit Kashmir Movement which ultimately won us the freedom from the bondage we were in.
By the way who sold the nation? Is it that Gulab Singh was a Hindu, who purchased Kashmir, which had Muslim population? Does the writer want to create communal feelings? One must understand that there are many ugly patches of our history. Do we remember how Yousuf Shah Chak was cheated by Mughals? From the Soujourns of Tarsar and Marsar he was made to burn his skin in the sultry heat of Bihar Sherif where his grave reportedly still exists. Is it that both belonged to the same religion and therefore, should be conveniently ignored or forgotten? Again think of the atrocities perpetrated by the Pathan rulers in Kashmir when women were abducted from Kashmir and sold in Kabul. The evidence of these horrible incidents is still available in Kabul. The inhuman behaviors of Kakar Khan, who ate the ear of the dead man to convey the message of his arrival in Kashmir is also a part of our history. Remembering 16th March or 6th March or the events of 1825 or 1856 when Bahadur Shah was interned and exiled are not going to lead us anywhere. We must appreciate and be grateful to our ancestors both Muslims and Hindus who experienced the physical pain and anguish of these ugly episodes of the past but found a way of life of mutual accommodation, mutual respect for each other and adopted a peaceful way of life leaving a message of love and peace behind.
Another writer is out to stone the people he hates. Does it not cross his mind, that it is voter of the country who needs to be stoned? A voter votes the corrupt politician to power, then weeps and wails for five years. Then again the same voter votes for the same or similar politician and places him in power and again starts wailing for the next five years. This process has been going on for last six decades. So why should we blame politician when we ourselves are responsible for everything we suffer.
