Heavy vehicular movement irks Garipora
RESIDENTS APPEAL DDC
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Mar 20: Residents of Bemina have accused the district Budgam administration of failing to keep its promise that no heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on Koolipora –Garipora link road.
A delegation from the area told Greater Kashmir that the district authorities during a recent visit there assured that heavy vehicular traffic would not be allowed on the link road.
Pertinently the road has turned a key link since the iron bridge on a canal there was dismantled and everyday thousands of people ply that way.
“Before removing the iron tress bridge at Garipora, the officials told us that the Garipora-Koolipora link road is meant only for private vehicles and will not be used as an alternative road for heavy vehicular traffic,” the residents said.
“However, hundreds of tippers ply on this narrow stretch day in and day out,” they complained adding that the road hasn’t been repaired properly despite its importance.
The locals said the officials had told them that Narkara-Ompora and Soibugh-HMT routes had been kept as “official alternative routes for heavy traffic.”
“We appeal to the DDC, Budgam Muhammad Rafi to look into the matter and mitigate our grievances,” the residents said.w
